Alright I’m back! Been a crazy couple of weeks but finally received the lids from MF and was able to begin the prep work today after work! Oh how I love dremmeling and sanding FG! ..... guys, I will say MFs FG lids are super light! Whatever mix he’s got going on is a step above! Plan to lay down the primer tomorrow as time permits .... stay tuned!
Had a half day today so was able to do a bit of work. Quick wet sand with some 600 and down went the base metal.... I still prefer masking my damage so old
Habits die hard I guess lol! Will move onto the dome next....
another update.... went ahead and masked off the dominant damage including the ROTJ “drip” we all know and love. Loving this texture... a mix of 3M 77 and Floquil texture... then re-applied the green.... will unmask this evening or tomorrow..
Alright ...unveiled the killstripes. I think the scaled size works nicely! Keep in mind this is minus the misting etc that needs to take place. This will be done upon completion of all of the colors in order to harness consistency.....
Good morning, Ive had a couple of questions regarding the order or approach with respect to the texture and color application. So figured I'd add this to the thread...I will use the dome as an example..My order is as follows:
- Base colors Ie: For the dome this means the layers of green (Let dry)
- Mask off negative space (All areas we don't want the texture)
- Apply your choice of texture (Let dry)
- Re-apply the green over the texture (Let dry)
- Remove dried masking fluid
Ok as a perfectionist like most of us prop freaks are I had been playing with another idea for texture ..... drum roll........ lol actual topical paint layering! .... so simply stated, as many of you know spray paint coagulates fairly quick... spray a bit, a few seconds later as it thickens I began topically laying some of the texture treatment... I’m pretty pleased with the outcome. In the images you can see the varying textures. A bit of spray texture followed up with the topical layer.
