Matt’s ROTJ Build

mjwierzb

Concept
12/16 - with some help from fellow builders, I’ve realized my jet pack needs a little bit of work. The pack itself and the thrusters need to be filled in with apoxie for a more screen accurate look.
The pack has a couple “vents” that need to be filled in. The ROTJ pack does not have these vents. Also my thrusters are dual sided. The circular and square indentations on the ball part of the thruster are on both sides. This is also inaccurate. In both cases, apoxie will be used to cover up the inaccuracies! I added photos of what needs to be fixed!
Also got these decals in for the jet pack!

Concept
12/22 - added some apoxie to areas on my jet pack that needed to be filled in. The seller I got it from on Etsy had some inaccuracies in his file but, no matter! Nothing a little apoxy and water can’t fix! I’ll let it dry and will add more and sand if necessary!

1/4 - Hey everyone! Sorry it has been awhile, I hope you had an awesome Christmas and New Year! I was in Florida for a week, visiting Disney and going to Galaxy’s Edge for the first time with my girlfriend. It was really awesome! Unfortunately, everyone else in my house got COVID just after I had left so I haven’t been able to return home just yet. However, my armor has finally arrived from MinuteFett! Once I get home, I’ll be sure to open it up and send pictures. Also, my brother was kind enough to sand down the apoxie on the jet pack and get it some primer on it. Result is attached!

1/10 - hey everyone! Finally was able to come home and crack open my new boba armor! I gotta say, I’m pretty pleased with the way everything looks! It’s going to be a lot of trimming and sanding but I’m looking forward to the task. Also, MF accidentally sent me a pair of gauntlets so I got another set of those (not pictured).

1/11 - got some trimming done! Overall pretty happy with the result, this stuff is super easy to work with! The strap slots on the back plate were tough to cut, but I tried my best. You won’t even really be able to notice them anyways with the straps hanging out the back.

1/13 - Chest and abdomen plates are trimmed! Still have to cut the slots on the left chest plate out still, we will get to that. Also pretty pleased with how the jet pack thrusters turned out with the apoxie. Those are drying from another round of being sanded and primed. Also my hoses have dried from weathering; I lightly misted a mixture of black and brown spray paint to get the desired color. Knee pads are next!

Knee pads are done! I’m gonna give the pieces a nice bath before beginning paint! Also, does anyone have any suggestions/methods for getting the knees darts into place? I assume drilling holes is probably the preferred method, just wanted to know what everyone else thinks!

Actually got a tip from someone on how to get the knee darts in so disregard my question!

1/16 - got the slots cut out of the chest plate! I drilled several smalls holes into the chest slot areas. Then, using sandpaper and a file, I was able to smooth out the slots and shape them. Also laid down some silver on my jet pack.

1/18 - I squared out the slots on my chest plate, as they were too rounded. The top slot may need more work but I’m going to hold off on touching up on that more until my chest display comes in (should be here Wednesday). I used a Husky 7 piece precision needle file set from Home Depot (about 10 bucks). They are super awesome but definitely need to be used slowly as they are quite powerful! Definitely recommend that kit (pictured).
I also drilled out the holes for my knee darts. The small dart hole is a 1/2” drill bit and the larger darts are 3/4” drill bit. The MinuteFett armor is nice, as a resin block sits inside the dart area. I tapped the blocks into the knee pad and then drilled my holes until I reached the block. Then, i simply put the darts in!

Concept
2/7 - Heres the result from masking off the silver! Very happy with the shade of yellow I used (reminder, I have using spray cans). Next step it to mask yellow and mask over the silver. I know that some builders will leave the masking fluid on the silver and peel everything off at the very end once the green is on. However, it’s much easier for me to see where I have to mask yellow if the silver is visible. Still have to do the back plate and knees!
