Humbrol paints possibly used on the ESB suit

Hey I was wondering if anyone had some ideas about what humbrol paints they may have used while repainting the jetpack and gauntlets before filming the ESB. I figured it might be more likely they used some humbrol paints during that since the suit was in the UK for filming and humbrol is their brand. Open to any ideas I’ve been really looking around and haven’t found much

I actually have some vintage Humbrol paints that look promising.

i need to swatch this out but it looks to be in the ball park for the jetpack.

I still would not recommend humbrol to anyone it’s tiny, expensive, hard to thin and I highly doubt it was used on the og. I’m sure many fetts would tell you the same thing regarding humbrol.

I really appreciate the advice and believe me I know I’ve been using humbrol paints for 4+ years and they aren’t the best but I don’t think floquil paints were used while repainting the gauntlets right before filming and at this point I am going for extreme accuracy and I think humbrol is on that right track. But I more than appreciate you looking out! Humbrol is a very picky paint but when you get it dialed in it’s golden!

Now I also have a bunch of vintage floquils that I’ll be playing around with as well. Now worse comes to worse I’ll use some SAC bomber green which looks amazing and is what Eric has been using. I’m just playing around with different options and this is all part of the fun!

Humbrols are perfectly serviceable paints. I've not had any of the issues that Minute has referred to, but I hate those tins.
The tins they come in are the absolute worst lol I will say for anyone that’s not familiar with using enamels they can be a bit tricky to get a good consistency for airbrushing.

I did struggle with using Humbrol acrylics a couple years ago - was getting super wierd textures. Found out it's because I wasn't thoroughly mixing the paint prior to using it. It wasn't forgiving like other paints are.

I brought up using humbrols on JP and gaunts years ago elsewhere, and some of the prominent "master-painters" laughed at me, so have been "gun-shy" about ever mentioning it again. I still use humbrols on my gaunts, and used it on my JP as well, (although on JP I used such a mix of colors/brands that I could probably never duplicate it LOL) Humbrols are my least favorite of any paint I've ever sprayed, but I do still use it. As others have said, hate the tins, but I will say this, I've never had a humbrol paint dry out me....can't say the same from floquil/testors....

I used Humbrol extensively before Archive X came around. They weren't terrible but still my least favorite brand to work with. For anyone who plans to use humbrol it is crucial you get a good mixing tool (you should have one anyway). Oddly Humbrol is the one brand I have dry out on me constantly. Stopped using them partly for that reason. Some paints brand new in the tin dried up. Tried so many different types of jars for storage. Even read storing paints in the fridge could help - but not for me.

I painted my ears with humbrol. Never had a problem honestly. My new years are painted with humbrol as well now that I think about it.

I’ve had the same problem with the tins drying out. I actually bought a case and every single one in the whole case was rock solid in the tin. But I still love using them!

So do you have any ideas of what paints they may have used? I’m trying to get a list together because I have a very very strong feeling they used humbrol paints!

Only guesses (like everything else) I like the look of matt 102, and used that as my JP base, but as I mentioned, I misted a whole bunch of other greens/greys over the top of it until I got the look I wanted, so there's maybe a better choice for that??.I think I covered up a lot of the matt 102 with testors POG....
I do like Steve's color!!!

This is the best gaunt pic I have at the moment. Also matt 102 with some light grey to lighten/desaturate. It usually looks a bit lighter than this, depending on lighting...
