Gauntlet Sculpt Project

Concept
Hey all! I'm finally jumping into sculpting my own gauntlets for vacuum forming. Please share any feedback you have as I'm going through this process. I'm aiming to get them as perfect as I can.

Started off with the left gauntlet top as it's pretty easy to get sizing of it because I have a Casio MQ-1. This will also be fiberglass casted later on for ROTJ builds. I've got a nearly complete rough shape of it done. Still a ways to go.

Make sure to get the calc keypad area deep enough that the keypad can sit in it correctly with the guts still attached!

And feel free to using an Elstree gauntlet laser to help you with your sizing!!

For sure, always a chore getting a real keyboard to fit in other sculpts I've worked with.

Made some more progress today. There is still a lot of tweaking to do (plus the other side and back). Some parts of it just don't quite feel right yet. Rocket is a MOW I had lying around that I altered to be closer to Mando Boba. Will print out one of RafalFett's rockets here soon so I get a better idea of sizing.

Made a few adjustments and did a quick (and rough) test pull.
Over all pretty nice. Need to get the flamethrowers together and the greebles casted.
The keyboard slot needs some adjusting, can't quite fit it in yet.

On that note, does someone have measurements of the keyboard with the guts attached? Mine is all nice and installed into my gauntlet and I'd like to avoid getting it out if I don't have too.

Well, I made my resin copy the size of what Steven posted above and it fit so nicely I just had to go through the process of popping it out of my gauntlet for these pictures. Fits like a glove.

Also I've started printing 7CS's ESB flamethrower. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to the flamethrower so if anyone sees anything wrong please let me know.

Anyone have any leads on the right ROTJ gauntlet hose connectors? Been digging through McMaster-Carr and Grainger but can't quite find exactly what I want.

Updates! Everything is moving along smoothly. Got some parts molded and casted and the upper shells are pretty much done. Ignore the textured plastic, wanted to do a test pull in ABS but didn't want to use my good ABS.

Still more to do, as always, but I'd expect these to be ready in 2ish weeks? Longer depending on if I can get my cheapo resin printer working correctly.

Overall things are moving along. Casted some new bucks for the gauntlet tops so it's easier to work on. The other ones were becoming such a mess of spot putty, bondo, sintra, and resin that getting the right shapes was difficult. Plus these will last forever as bucks. Still need to make some more adjustments to the keypad slot.

Resin greeblies are going well. Need to cast the hose connectors for ROTJ and the little gray greeble on the right gauntlet. Then of course the ESB flamethrower and rocket. ROTJ flamethrower I casted in plaster to work on it. Needs to be straightened out some.

7CS also sold me a mold for the ROTJ left top which is what I use on my personal kit and I think it's already pretty good so I'll probably just use that mold until it is shot then make another with a few tiny changes.

I plan to offer all the parts except gauntlet darts as resin darts are too fragile and everyone should buy metal *cough* Machinecraft *cough* ones anyway.

Is there a definitive answer for what dental files are on the ESB gauntlets? Red and silver, but do we know what number(s)?
