Boba87Fett’s Jetpack Thruster and Light Effects Build

Hi everyone,

I have started adding thruster and lighting effects to my ESB Boba Fett jetpack.

You can find the jetpack build in my main build thread, but it is still in progress. The jetpack I am building is a @Darth Voorhees 7CSProps kit with the new hollow thrusters Lou is including with his updated kits. This allowed me to have a lot more control over how I assembled the effects kit.

I ordered the following effects kit from Wayne’s Workshop Cosplay:

I also went to Ace Hardware and purchased fittings, nuts, washers, etc.

I used these nylon fittings to fit into the thruster piece that goes into the jetpack body. They slip into it and then the threaded aide goes into the jetpack body where it gets a large washer and a nut. This allows the electronic wiring and the tubing for the thruster effect to pass through.

I used a Dremel to smooth out the surface and bore out the inside.

It then slipped right into the thruster arm. The interior diameter is just big enough for the electronics clip to pass through.

This is just a test fitting. The lighting strip will be fixed to the thruster disc in a way that it maximizes the lighting into the stream of condensed air. The thruster effect tubing will also be secured and centered.

Slightly off topic, but has there ever been someone who made an ESTES engine type rocket that could fire out of the Jetpack?

Slightly off topic, but has there ever been someone who made an ESTES engine type rocket that could fire out of the Jetpack?
I'm actually building a file that fits a Estes rocket in the bottom of the rocket . 3d printing the rockets are cheap. The only catch is you won't be able to con with it or get accepted into mercs and such. They don't allow projectiles at all. I'm making my kit as functional as the original prototype fett costume was but with no fire just co2. I'm using inexpensive solenoids with Vinton seals for gasses. Truth be told I work as a co2 extraction Operator so the plumbing and workings are fairly easy. I also use to build Estes rockets as a kid when I was working at a hobby shop.

Alright. Update time!

Next, I made sure the components fit well together and then bonded them with epoxy. When it dried, I used the glazing Bondo to smooth out the gaps from the seams.

After the glazing putty dried, I primered the components with Rustoleum Gray Primer.

I anticipated doing this a couple times, so the gap was to be expected. Next, I sanded the surfaces smooth and back down through the layers in some areas.

Once the gaps were better closed and smoothed out, including the top of the cone to the base of the ball, I primered everything again and then wet sanded them smooth:

Satisfied with the fill, I moved on to spraying them Humbrol 11 Silver.

Here is a test fit of the thruster arm into jetpack body:

On the inside, I have a reinforced the jetpack body and fitted a washer and a nut on the nylon threads that come from the thruster arm (secured inside of the resin cast part with epoxy).

Inside the thruster cone, I have placed a metal MachineCraft Replicas disc in place - to be secured with epoxy. I opened up the exhaust hole in the middle to allow the electrical plug to pass through to travel back to the interior of the jetpack body. I will likely leave the inside of this thruster cone mirror chrome in order to better reflect and project the light into the smoke. Might weather it towards the very bottom though - we'll see.

As the wiring and the smoke hose travel up in the body of the thruster and through the arm, I used electrical tape and a zip tie to keep them together in order to keep the distance between the LED and smoke tubing where I think I want it.

Then I epoxied the joint from the ball of the thruster to the arm that goes into the jetpack body. I let this cure for 3 days. I applied it inside and then over the gap on the outside using a toothpick. Note that I had to do this with the wiring and hose in place. This is due to the size of the LED in the cone and the difficulty in routing everything once the assembly is sealed.

After the epoxy had bonded a few days later, I applied more of the Bondo glazing putty to begin the process of sealing the gap.

Sorry for the late reply! I was just hoping to see your work on the subject. Of course you don't need to fire it off in the wrong crowd!
